Wolviston are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Technician for a client in Billingham.

The duration of the contract will be based on a rolling agreement every 12 months.

You will be required to diagnose and repair defective equipment and undertake routine inspections to ensure that plant on-line time and equipment availability meets company targets.

Inspection and diagnosis of the physical integrity of turbine equipment and various elements of rotating equipment using supporting data for analysis.

Perform routine maintenance on all rotating equipment, test systems, and troubleshoot all mechanical systems.

Replace or repair worn or malfunctioning components, document in electronic maintenance systems to ensure records are maintained accurately and up to date and comply with legislative and company standards.


  • To diagnose faults when equipment is operating outside its normal band of operation and repair defective equipment to ensure it performs its functions correctly. (E.g. the inspection, replacement or refurbish of components parts, testing and subsequent rebuild and re-commission/test run as appropriate).
  • To undertake routine preventative maintenance and proof testing inspections as indicated by electronic routines or written procedures to ensure they are completed correctly and maintain HSE/EA compliance and plant reliability
  • To obtain the spares and materials required for the work by raising requisitions and consulting with suppliers and documentation to ensure it is to the correct specification.
  • To prepare, collate and file reports of work done and equipment settings in electronic maintenance and paper filing systems, so that historical data is retained for others who may work on the equipment, recommendations for the future are made and evidence of work done is available for audit.
  • To maintain, by ‘marking up’ working drawings and documentation when errors are identified and updating that information directly or via the Maintenance Supervisor, Planner or Engineer to ensure records are correct and provide accurate information for others.
  • To liaise and co-ordinate activities and permits during a planned major turnaround, projects or breakdown and interface with process personnel and sub-contractors to ensure timely, effective and safe execution of work.
  • To plan, check and organise job methods and the installation or repair of equipment undertaken by other personnel and sub-contractors, off-site or in-situ, to meet company requirements as required by peak workload
  • To deputise for the Line Manager when required to support absence or specific projects to assist the role in its effectiveness and delivery


The job holder will have trained in a trade apprenticeship to a recognised NVQ qualification or equivalent.

Safety critical maintenance on pressurised systems and rotating machines require a high degree of routine compliance and documentation control.  Poor compliance can result in regulatory action if discovered in HSE/EA audit or COMAH/PPC visit.

Technicians are directly involved in the first line breaks for hazardous materials, isolation of electrical equipment or safety instrumented control systems and as such must have a high standard of workmanship and compliance with procedures to ensure safety is not compromised.

The individual needs to be diligent and rigorous at applying and following standard procedures and documenting work done.

Good problem solving skills and a logical approach to work is an essential requirement for the role, especially during breakdown call-outs.

You must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff and outside organisations and be proficient in the use of computerised maintenance management systems.
